    Mother London

I strongly recommend Mother London, a great evocation of mid to late 20th century urban life. There may not be a sword swinging hero rampaging around but there are some great characters.

Makes me wish Peter Ackroyd would try some fantasy writing.

One of my favorites. I've told Mike many times that Josef Kiss is my favorite of all of his characters. I like that you have to work a little to understand the structure and rhythms, but once you find your bearings you uncover a London unlike a London I would have imagined.

Without giving away too much, the tragedy involved is very moving, but the love you feel--for and between the character, and Mike's love for the city-- is what I remember most keenly.
