    Strange activities by humans

People do some of the damnedest things.

I only recently became aware of this one:

    http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...in_tomatoes_dc

I must admit that I found myself searching for mordenkainen and Duncan in the picture. Perhaps they were out of the viewfinder.

Anyone know anything about this? The local lady's comments about the participants being "degenerates" struck me as amusing.

Obviously, Spain also has "running with the bulls" at Pamplona. Can anyone think of other, peculiar such events in other countries?

"Dwarf-tossing" contests in the UK might qualify.

      Polar Dipping.

Very popular here in Washington. See what I mean? (WARNING: some people polar dip nude, so click with care!)

Maybe too self-consciously weird to count.

                  drag racing. :D

try explaining to an alien why humans suit up, slip into a lightweight "rocket" on four wheels and go screaming down the track at 330 m.p.h.. is it the g-forces? is it for the smell of burning nitro and tires? the overall sport of top fuel drag racing could be looked at as wasteful of resources, but you know?

IT'S JUST SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH!!!!

... and now back to our previously scheduled ponderance of strange human activities....

                    Lawn Mower Racing.

In which, I should point out, I am a former Guinness World Record-Holder (Class 1, 12-hour Endurance, Wisborough Green 1984, Team Supergnome (D. Partridge, A. Horton, G. Morris, R. Spooner)).

Record held 1984-1991. It's in The Books.

I can't remember the details, of course...

Can't remember. Three engines blown in the race. Throttle jammed on (illegal) at one point, Andy fell over and the 'mower punched through the barriers to wipe out the headlamps of a brand new BMW.
                        I had to laugh.
