From next year, at three month intervals, Del Rey books will be publishing trade paperback editions of the Elric books. They will be done more or less in the order in which they were published and will be illustrated by some of the best artists currently at work. The first one will be done by my good friend John Picacio, whose first professional book illustrating job was the Mojo edition of Behold the Man (and who also illustrated Tales from the Texas Woods, also for Mojo) and will include the original stories from The Stealer of Souls and Stormbringer, as well as other material, plus a new introduction and explanatory material. They will be published in much the same style and format as Del Rey's Conan editions. I can't remember if I have already announced this, but thought I'd better mention it now just in case I hadn't! The books will include short stories from the world of the Young Kingdoms and other stories as they originally appeared in Science Fantasy magazine, including To Rescue Tanelorn and so on. Scripts, early illustrations and so on will also be included in the volumes.

They sound like they will be absolutely fantastic Mike. Just what we wanted. You see, it's... it's no good, Montag. We've all got to be alike. The only way to be happy is for everyone to be made equal.

I have been awaiting the day, Michael! For I have only a few of the books and they are terribly ancient and worn... I dare not touch them for that very reason so I borrow the library's editions! Hah! Hah! Hah! I cannot wait for the books to come out, and I am glad that the covers are different from Robert Gould's... No offense, but I did not like his way of drawing Elric... But he is still a great artist and should have credit for that!
I thank thee for the information... I will be looking forward to the books...

Mike,
Those editions sound fantastic! They will be amazing. Once I get those books, they will be among my most important treasures!
How goes everything? Have you had a chance to do all the great stuff that you wanted to do in Europe?
Best Wishes!
-Joe

I'm very pleased I'll be working with my friend John Picacio on these new editions.
Weather stopped me from doing EVERYTHING I wanted to do in France this year, but I got a lot done, including the Peake text for the Sunday books.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

The weather was too hot, rather than too wet. For the first month or so it was almost as much as I could do to go to the baker for a loaf of bread... The irony is that we leave Texas during those months because we're trying to escape the heat.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

Just checking a status on these editions. I read another thread that said 2008 was the year to expect them? Wondering if there is any new news concerning these?
Thanks!

Yep. First quarter of 2008. First one's illustrated by John Picacio (some beautiful stuff), second by Michael Kaluta (outstanding, as always) and third by Steve Ellis (very nice, too). And the fourth will be done by Julian Sweet, who did such a nice job on Howard's Kane. I'm much looking forward to them and will probably go to the NY Comic Convention to begin the promotion in February (I think it is). They'll have a lot of extra material, as well as the books, and introductions by the likes of Alan Moore. 2008 should be a pretty good year for Elric.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

I actually like comics conventions better than sf conventions. They're huge (even the NY one apparently -- I've only been to San Diego in the US) but very well organised. Authors do attend, but you get more artists, of course, and I have many good friends in that community including, of course, my working partner Walter Simonson.Pre-order or Buy my latest titles in Europe:

I do hope you attend this next one! Been a long time since I was able to say hello!
Cheers, Nick.
