After finding this site by accident, I was quite surprised as my mother was recently talking about 'old times' and yourself. I thought I would ask you if you remember a science fiction convention in the early 60's (long shot I know, but you never know unless you ask!) It was in either Harrogate or Petersfield, Brian Aldis, and Michael Langdon (sp?) was there among many others also. My mum Valerie Purnell was remembering whan you drew noughts and crosses on her fishnet stockings. She was with the group that decided to take a fire extinguisher and get their own back on a rather obnoxious lady that was with the convention, they went over the roof, and a pagan wedding was up there at some point lol. She asked me to say if you remembered Burgesses meat pies from the convention also.

Wether you have memory or not of the event, I thought I would post this to bring back some nostalgia for you :D

PS Aldiss, Harrison and I had to go to Woolworths because Burgess had eaten or sold all his pies. Crowded Saturday shopping. "Make way for Mr Moorcock! Make way for Mr Moorcock!" cried Harrison and Aldiss -- and the crowd parted miraculously. We got to the pie counter and bought them all up. Burgess thought this was unfair trade practice, since he tended to have a corner on pies. That's the pie business for you. Cut-throat. Wouldn't work in Rippon, the Meat Pie Capital of the Universe.

Think it was Dave Hale (?) somebody had a draw with noughts and crosses and you both had your drinks pinched, at least she thinks it was yours. It was probably a safe bet to go to woolies for your pies then, as you dont know what you would have been eating! Are you the one who got your foot stuck down the loo and flushed on when you all tried to cram as many as possible in the WC ? Rotwang rules! (whatever that means lol)

Mum said to thank you for the nostalgic trip :D She said it was nice to have contacted someone she remembers from her youth, and to remenisce about amusing events. So thank you for making her smile, is much appreciated and has made her day. If you still have any contact with the others, please pass on her kind regards.
